A fatal train derailment in the Mexican state of Oaxaca has claimed the lives of at least 13 people, an incident likely to revive censure from critics regarding the rapidity and handling of the country's flagship government projects.
The accident took place on the trans-isthmus railway, a line constructed to join the Atlantic and Pacific across the slenderest section of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. This initiative was created to provide an different freight railway path to the Panama Canal, aimed at driving commercial progress in the area.
“We shall thoroughly investigate the reasons behind this incident,” stated the head of state.
The leader announced that, of the around 250 individuals on board, another 98 were injured, with five of those in critical condition. The official stated plans to visit Oaxaca to meet those involved.

The Interoceanic Train was a signature infrastructure project of the immediate past president, whose time in office ended the prior year. This rail line was intimately linked to his leadership's economic goals for the southern region.

In response, the president insisted that the train had been running in complete adherence to all operational standards. Assurances were given that the government would continue to be "accountable" in both the construction and running of these vital projects.
